Why are we called Miss Lacey?
Our cafe and wine bar is named after "Lacey St" which is the intersecting street upon which we sit. The Lacey Family were actually one of the first families to inhabit the area from England. Gregory Lacey and his wife Sarah came to Australia in 1870 and in 1880 Gregory purchased 56 acres of land including the land that our Cafe sits on. Gregory had the honour of naming the town, he decided to name it after his wife Sarah's home town in England "Croydon" as his home town "Steeple Bumpstead" did not have the best ring to it!
